Cambodia

The Kingdom of Cambodia is located on the southern borders of Laos and Thailand, west of Vietnam and east of the Gulf of Thailand. Prominent features of the country include Tonle Sap and also the Mekong River. Additionally, 95% of the population in Cambodia is Khmer and they speak the Khmer language. This heritage dates back to 800 AD when King Jayavarman II consolidated the region and established the Khmer Empire. Fortunately, the Khmer built great temples which can still be observed today in Siem Reap province. In modern times, Cambodia still bears the scars left by the Vietnam war and rise of the Khmer Rouge. My Cambodia travel adventure is a mix of both ancient and modern history.
