Fat Baobab Tree Photos and Info

There are 9 species of the baobab tree worldwide and 6 of the species are found only in Madagascar. Therefore, a Madagascar travel adventure will resut in many encounters with the different species of this unique tree.

The most unique feature of the baobab is the fat trunk. Due to the arid environment in which they live it is necessary to store lots of water. As a result, the baobab tree is capable of storing up to 26,000 gallons at a time. Therefore, these fat trunks make the tree look very unique.

Please enjoy my selection of photos and info about the baobab. Find the links to my Madagascar travel posts below. The most interesting trees were found in Madagascar’s Tsimanampetsotsa Nature Reserve, Isalo National Park and the Ifaty Spiny Forest. I hope that my photos help you to appreciate their impressive size and unique technique for survival.
